Barney Allis Plaza Redevelopment

The former Barney Allis Plaza, a 1970s concrete space with a 900-space underground garage at 12th & Wyandotte, had grown outdated and deteriorated. The ongoing Barney Allis Plaza Redevelopment project is transforming it into a two-acre urban space. The former Barney Allis Plaza, a 1970s concrete space with a 900-space underground garage at 12th & Wyandotte, had grown outdated and deteriorated. The ongoing Barney Allis Plaza Redevelopment project is transforming it into a two-acre urban park, while rebuilding the garage to provide 580 spaces. DuBois Consultants is serving in multiple capacities on the Barney Allis Plaza Redevelopment project. Through our Owner’s Advisory services, our team provides project management and administration support during the construction phase, including bi-weekly progress reporting to track schedule, progress, observed deficiencies, and other key project details. Throughout construction, our team is also providing special inspection services. Following each site visit, our inspectors prepare and submit detailed reports.

Historic Lincoln Building Renovation

The Historic Lincoln Building, located within Kansas City’s 18th & Vine District, is currently undergoing significant interior renovations. DuBois Consultants is providing structural design support on the building including a new three-level staircase, solutions for damaged floor framing, temporary support floor framing redesign, and new loose lintel and framed openings at specific locations. Additionally, our structural engineers are supporting with the design of new rooftop units, existing steel beam and concrete repair, and the Central Atrium stair design.

Renner Blvd Retaining Wall Study

DuBois Consultants’ civil and structural engineering services were enlisted for an inspection and study of the large retaining wall at 9401 Renner Blvd in Lenexa, KS. Our engineers performed a structural wall observation study, as well as a drainage study, and delivered a summary of our findings to the client.

Mattie Rhodes Cultural Center

Founded in 1999, the Mattie Rhodes Art Gallery serves as a place for both established and new Latino artists to promote their pieces, and a space for the Kansas City area to engage with the Latino culture through art. In 2018, the owners sought to create a new space, the Mattie Rhodes Cultural Center, which would carry on the same mission. DuBois Consultants provided civil engineering services on the project, which consisted of site development, existing condition assessment, demolition plan, site plan, grading, stormwater & erosion control, utility plan, ADA details, and construction administration services. The center is located at 1701 Jarboe St.

Arts District Garage - Kauffman Center for Performing Arts

The remarkable Kauffman Center for the Performing Arts officially opened to the public in 2011, accompanied by the Arts District Garage located beneath the building. This underground facility accommodates up to 1,000 vehicles and serves both performing arts patrons and the surrounding business community. Notable features include a pedestrian entry leading to the four-story atrium that fills the space with natural light, and a green roof with landscaped pathways that seamlessly blend the structure into its surroundings. DuBois Consultants was brought onto the project for expert structural engineering and design support for the garage’s foundations, retaining walls, and miscellaneous steel structures.

Leawood Pioneer Library - Johnson County Library

The Leawood Pioneer Library, located in Leawood, KS, is one of Johnson County Library’s 14 branches. The west entrance patio of the library began to buckle, likely due to poor drainage, and DuBois Consultants was contracted to provide civil engineering services to fix the patio. Specifically, our civil team engineered the patio paving system and provided the necessary stormwater drainage solution.

2000 Vine St. Rehabilitation North & South Buildings

The historic structures at 2000 Vine St. was rehabilitated and DuBois Consultants had the opportunity provide structural engineering services on the project. For the North building, the team evaluated the existing floor and roof structure, identified necessary modifications, and supported construction through administration services. In the South building, DuBois was brought in to assess unforeseen site conditions during demolition. The team revised demolition and framing plans, produced temporary wall support designs, and provided updated construction drawings based on field investigations.

Historic Satchel Paige Home Redevelopment

The former home of Leroy “Satchel” Paige is planned to undergo a comprehensive restoration and renovation, transforming into a community center for diversity, equity, & inclusion. Beyond restoring the home to its original state, the home will be redeveloped to include spaces devoted to public exhibits of the Paige Story, a coffee shop/retail enterprise, a catering kitchen, meeting/teaching spaces, and more. DuBois Consultants provided civil design services on the project, including a storm study, site plan, and design of retaining walls, screen walls, signs, sidewalks, and a curb improvement plan. While design has been completed, the project is currently on hold. The project is located at 2626 E. 28th St.

First United Methodist Church Structural Inspections

The First United Methodist Church in Garnett, KS, solicited structural engineering support from DuBois Consultants regarding several concerns their team had with the building. Our structural engineers conducted structural inspections and observations of the existing church attic space specific to the existing cracked roof trusses and excessive sagging roof purlin support beam, as well as warping/bowing in the west wall. From our observations, DuBois Consultants developed a written report outlining areas of concerns and appropriate recommendations. Currently, we are assisting the church with bid phase services before moving on to construction.

Rose Hill Mausoleum Roof Investigation

The Rose Hill Mausoleum, located within the Rose Hill Cemetery at 6900 Troost Ave in Kansas City, MO, is part of a historic Jewish burial ground that has served the community for more than a century. In 2023, DuBois Consultants was asked to investigate the existing condition of the mausoleum, specifically where marble was showing signs of discoloration due to possible moisture damage. Our structural engineering team conducted a preliminary analysis and site investigation of the structure, and produced a summary and report of our findings.

The Borough KC

The existing structure at 8026 The Paseo, now known as local restaurant called The Borough KC, was rehabilitated in 2020. DuBois Consultants provided structural engineering and design services on the project. Our work encompassed the review of preliminary framing plans, review of existing site conditions, and structural design for the removal of two bearing walls to be replaced by wood beams. The Borough KC opened to the public in April 2022.

Cleveland Chiropractic College Parking Renovation

Cleveland Chiropractic College is an educational facility dedicated to the teaching of the science, philosophy, and art of chiropractic care. For more than nine decades, time, weather, and consistent use of the campus’s structures resulted in the need to perform renovations to maintain a safe environment for its users and visitors. DuBois Consultants worked in conjunction with the campus staff to provide structural concrete renovations to the campus’s parking structure. Our team performed site inspections, documentation of existing deteriorated concrete conditions, preparation of construction documentation, and construction administration and observation services during the construction phase.

Dollar General Retaining Wall Observation

DuBois Consultants was asked to provide structural engineering services at a local Dollar General store in Blue Springs, MO. Our civil and structural teams conducted a thorough site observation and walk-through of an existing retaining wall towards the rear of the store that appeared to have existing damage and was collapsing. Following our site visit, we provided the client with a site observation report and recommendations for repair.
