    DuBois Consultants offers comprehensive civil design services for projects of all types and sizes. Our experienced civil engineering team specializes in traditional site civil design, including site planning, grading, drainage, utilities, stormwater management, parking design, and permitting. Additionally, we bring extensive expertise in water infrastructure, such as water main replacements and sanitary sewer extensions. PLANNING

Following discussions with the client outlining project expectations and goals, our project

managers develop a strategic plan to ensure efficient and excellent execution. This plan is

then communicated to the entire project team to ensure alignment and a shared vision before proceeding to the design phase.

DESIGN & EXECUTION

Our team brings the project to life during the design phase, where we focus on conceptualization, project configuration, and the creation of a detailed design. This design undergoes multiple review and rigorous quality control processes to ensure its accuracy and functionality.

DELIVERY

Once the design is refined and finalized, we submit the completed plan to the client for approval. Dry Weather Sewer Relief: Outfall 055

KC Water Services set out to reduce the combined sewer overflow within the Lower Blue River Basin by implementing a new Outfall 055 relief sewer. DuBois Consultants served as the Engineer-of-Record and worked on the project from design through construction phases. Our civil engineering scope of conceptual design alternatives evaluation, preliminary and final design, and on-site Resident Project Representative presence during the construction phase.

Gregory Boulevard Road Diet: Oak Street to The Paseo

KCMO Public Works aims to create a safer, more inclusive city for everyone, whether in cars, on foot, or on bicycles. At the heart of these efforts is Vision Zero, the City’s ambitious program aimed at eliminating traffic-related deaths and serious injuries by 2030. Our second project under this initiative involved developing a road diet design on Gregory Blvd. between Oak St. and The Paseo, consisting of lane reductions and intersection improvements. DuBois Consultants provided civil engineering and design services for the road diet, intersection, and sidewalk improvements, as well as the development of a traffic study report.

Wichita Water Facility

The City of Wichita, KS, replaced the aging 80-year-old Main Water Treatment Facility with the new Wichita Water Facility. This new 120 MGD, state-of-the-art, and future-proof facility will impact up to 55,000 families and homes across the city and surrounding areas. Our scope of services on the project included the design of six clarifier tanks, influent meter vault, influent splitter structure, influent flow control vault, ancillary bridge and support structure, solids contact clarifier, liquid holding tank, and multiple Pre-Engineering Metal Buildings (PEMBs) foundations on site. We also provided structural peer reviews of the chlorine contact basin and construction administration support.

New Kansas City International Single Terminal

The City of Kansas City, MO, replaced the outdated Kansas City International (KCI) Airport Terminals A, B, and C with a new single, consolidated terminal complex. DuBois Consultants provided structural engineering, design, and construction administration services for both the Central Utility Plant and the Terminal. As the Structural Engineer-of-Record for the Central Utility Plant, we led design efforts and provided ongoing CA support. At the Terminal, our work included foundation systems, concrete superstructure, masonry walls, and the severe weather area. Our team also supported design-build pile reviews and maintained a consistent on-site presence during construction.

Historic Charles McAfee Pool House Preservation Plan

The Historic Charles McAfee Pool and Pool House was constructed in 1969 and is the state of Kansas’ first public pool built specifically for African American children. In 2023, the Wichita Parks & Recreation Department was awarded a grant from the African American Cultural Heritage Action Fund to support the preservation and improvement of the Wichita landmark. DuBois Consultants is currently assisting with the development of a long-term preservation plan of the facility with structural engineering and design services. Our scope of services consists of thorough investigations of the facility’s existing concrete, as well as providing construction documents necessary for the repair of cosmetic concrete deterioration and spalling. As the project progresses, we will continue to support during the bid and construction phases.

40th & Monroe Sewer Separation

KC Water is working to separate approximately 220 acres of the City’s combined sewer system and eliminate select outfalls and/or diversion structures. During design, DuBois Consultants provided civil engineering services including utility coordination, sanitary and storm sewer design, and water main relocation. Our team designed a total of 5,020 LF of the water main replacement which aimed to replace break-prone and obsolete water mains that conflicted with the proposed storm sewer system. Currently, we are providing construction phase engineering services. Our lead civil inspector is on site daily to observe the construction process.

Barney Allis Plaza Redevelopment

The former Barney Allis Plaza, a 1970s concrete space with a 900-space underground garage at 12th & Wyandotte, had grown outdated and deteriorated. The ongoing Barney Allis Plaza Redevelopment project is transforming it into a two-acre urban park, while rebuilding the garage to provide 580 spaces. DuBois Consultants is serving in multiple capacities on the Barney Allis Plaza Redevelopment project. Through our Owner’s Advisory services, our team provides project management and administration support during the construction phase, including bi-weekly progress reporting to track schedule, progress, observed deficiencies, and other key project details. Throughout construction, our team is also providing special inspections services. Following each site visit, our inspectors prepare and submit detailed reports.

Gillham Rd. Cycle Track to Trolley Track Trail Connector

KCMO Public Works aims to create a safer, more inclusive city for everyone, whether in cars, on foot, or on bicycles. At the heart of these efforts is Vision Zero, the City’s ambitious program aimed at eliminating traffic-related deaths and serious injuries by 2030. Our first project under this initiative involved connecting the Gillham Rd Cycle Track to the Trolley Track Trail, resulting in a 10.5-mile continuous protected facility. This connection not only provides a safe route for cyclists but also improves access to jobs, neighborhoods, transit lines, schools, and more. DuBois Consultants took the lead on this project, providing preliminary designs for roadway improvements at three intersections. Our team’s work also included traffic analysis, traffic signals, and the design of pavement markings, sidewalks, and signage to enhance safety and usability.

Martin Luther King Jr. Park

Since 1978, the Martin Luther King Jr. Square Park on the East side of Troost has served as an underdeveloped memorial to a great man whose main use was by politicians as an illustration of the inequities of government spending. In 2020, Kansas City Chiefs quarterback, Patrick Mahomes, and his wife, Brittany Matthews, decided to donate a “destination park” to the city’s children. They selected this location to develop and build an inclusive playground that would attract children from all over the Kansas City area. DuBois Consultants provided civil engineering & design services on the project, including the design of the grading, stormwater management, and ADA sidewalks and parking.

Wichita Plant 2 BNR Improvements

The City of Wichita, KS operates five wastewater treatment facilities referred to as Plants 1, 2, 3, 4, and 5. Beginning in 2021, the City sought to make significant biological nutrient removal (BNR) improvements at Plant 2. DuBois Consultants was tasked with significant structural assessments, evaluations, and repairs at the plant, including modifying previously designed foundations, pipe support routes and their foundations, new pipe support locations, and checking the capacity of the existing thickening building and tunnel. Additionally, we performed a structural assessment of the clarifier and basin walls for concrete repairs, as well as the Plant’s air lock tunnel, boiler room, digesters, and sludge holding tanks. Currently, we are in the construction phase of the project where we continue to support with timely responses to shop drawings, RFIs, and site visits to perform inspections.

Mattie Rhodes Cultural Center

Founded in 1999, the Mattie Rhodes Art Gallery serves as a place for both established and new Latino artists to promote their pieces, and a space for the Kansas City area to engage with the Latino culture through art. In 2018, the owners sought to create a new space, the Mattie Rhodes Cultural Center, which would carry on the same mission. DuBois Consultants provided civil engineering services on the project, which consisted of site development, existing condition assessment, demolition plan, site plan, grading, stormwater & erosion control, utility plan, ADA details, and construction administration services. The center is located at 1701 Jarboe St.

Arts District Garage - Kauffman Center for Performing Arts

The remarkable Kauffman Center for the Performing Arts officially opened to the public in 2011, accompanied by the Arts District Garage located beneath the building. This underground facility accommodates up to 1,000 vehicles and serves both performing arts patrons and the surrounding business community. Notable features include a pedestrian entry leading to the four-story atrium that fills the space with natural light, and a green roof with landscaped pathways that seamlessly blend the structure into its surroundings. DuBois Consultants was brought onto the project for expert structural engineering and design support for the garage’s foundations, retaining walls, and miscellaneous steel structures.

Blue River Bio-Solids Facility

The Blue River Wastewater Treatment Plant was upgraded and renamed the Blue River Bio-Solids Facility, which now features the Thermal Hydrolysis Process (THP), a first for the Midwest, to recycle human and domestic waste. DuBois Consultants provided structural engineering and design services on the THP and gas flare foundations, east and west holding tanks, electrical building foundation design, digester building renovation, several site equipment foundation pads, pipe supports, and more. In addition, our team provided construction administration services during the construction phase. With the conclusion of this project, our team has begun work on the Blue River Grit Removal & Fine Screens project at the same site.

Fishing River Wastewater Treatment Plant Expansion

In 2011, the Fishing River Wastewater Treatment Plant in Kansas City, MO was expanded. The previous plant was a 1.0 MGD extended aeration, factory prefabricated treatment plant. The DuBois Consultants civil and structural design teams’ scope on the WWTP expansion to 2.0 MGD included site development, utility design, stormwater detention and retention, grading, drainage, an access road, and the structural design of the grit building influent pumping station, ultraviolet treatment building, and Blower Building. We also provided the design of several underground structures, such as the influent pumping station valve vault, ultraviolet channel, aeration basin, aeration basin splitter box, final clarifier splitter box, effluent, lagoon and biofilter.

Iatan Generating Station

The Iatan Generating Station is a major two-unit coal power facility near Weston, MO. DuBois Consultants provided a variety of civil and structural engineering and design services at the plant for over a decade, starting in 2006 and ending in 2017. DuBois Consultants’ civil and structural engineering services included foundation design for Unit Absorbers 1 & 2, modifications to an access road, and design of a platform connecting to stairs along the Unit 2 Boiler. Our team also designed a new guard post building that was approximately 900 sqft. and contained a restroom, operations desk, workstations, utility closet, storage room, kitchenette, exterior screen enclosure for mechanical equipment, and an exterior CMU planter/crash barrier.
