KANSAS CITY POWER + LIGHT CROSSTOWN SUBSTATION

IN THE HISTORIC CROSSROADS ARTS DISTRICT, KANSAS CITY

The Crosstown Substation was originally built in 1968 and was an award-winning design by local architects Kivett and Myers.  Overtime the wall began to deteriorate; and graffiti and litter covered and surrounded the wall. KCP&L decided to replace the wall with a new design that would reflect the Crossroads’ artistic community spirit, enhance the surrounding area and provide an attractive connection to the 18th and Vine District.

KAUFFMAN CENTER FOR PERFORMING ARTS GARAGE

The Kauffman Center is home to the resident organizations, the Kansas City Ballet, Lyric Opera, Kansas City Symphony, and other innovative programming. DuBois was contracted to perform structural design work for the Arts Center Garage. This structured was designed and built into a terraced limestone hillside to the south of the performing arts center, making it invisible from both the symphony and the ballet hall.   The garage not only serves the performing arts patrons but will also be user friendly to the surrounding business community. Special features of the garage include a pedestrian entry to the 4-story atrium that allows natural lighting and a green roof with landscaped pathways to blend the structure in with the surrounding areas.  DuBois provided structural design for the foundations, retaining walls and miscellaneous steel structures.

PROJECT HIGHLIGHTS:

  • Pedestrian entry to the 4-story atrium that allows natural lighting and a green roof
  • Green roof with landscaped pathways to blend the structure in with the surrounding areas
  • DuBois provided structural design for the foundations, retaining walls and miscellaneous steel structures.

LEON JORDAN EAST PATROL STATION + CRIME LAB FACILITY

The East Patrol Division/Crime Lab police campus is an 118,000 square foot campus that provides modern facilities for police officers, while giving them the opportunity to better investigate crime.
